Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IGTE) is a free conference to encourage girls in grades 8 to 12 to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM fields. Presented by Pantex Women in Nuclear and sponsored by Consolidated Nuclear Security and Region 16 Education Service Center, the event features plenary sessions by local women STEM leaders and plenty of career exploration stations.

Why is IGTE important?

Women remain underrepresented in the science and engineering workforce, although to a lesser degree than in the past, with the greatest disparities occurring in engineering, computer science, and physical sciences (NSF, Science & Engineering Indicators, 2018). Women make up half of the total U.S. college-educated workforce, but only 28% of the science and engineering workforce. We want to increase those numbers!

What is WIN?

U.S. Women in Nuclear is a national organization dedicated to driving a culture in nuclear energy and technology in which women and men succeed, creating professional development and networking opportunities for career advancement, and enhancing understanding and awareness of the value of nuclear energy and technology. Locally, the Pantex WIN chapter strives to increase active participation of members in career/professional development, networking, and outreach initiatives and increase engagement with the CNS mission and improve employee retention.
