Wildlife management at Pantex falls within the responsibility of the Environmental Stewardship Department. Program elements include habitat protection and management, wildlife protection and management, nuisance animal management, participation in regional wildlife initiatives, outreach, and research. All of these are supported by state and federal laws, Executive Orders, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration guidelines or orders.
Overall, wildlife management at Pantex exceeds minimum requirements, and ESD strives to implement regionally acceptable best management practices. Pantex has been especially active in wildlife research in recent years and much of this is conducted in collaboration with local universities, and other collaborators.
Pantex wildlife biologist Jim Ray often blogs about the wildlife surrounding Pantex and that you can find his posts on the Pantex blog.
